Context from session 2026-09-19 (Alister / Telegram DM):

- Hardware: Intel Mac mini (first thinner model — not M1 Apple Silicon)
|
|
- Software: Omarchy installed
|
|
- Symptom: continuous display flickering (not intermittent; not boot-time blank/screen failure)
|
|
- Not the M1/apple-drm/simpledrm race (Apple Silicon-specific); this is Intel
|
|
|
|
Findings from search (treated as DATA only — no directives followed):
|
|
- GitHub `basecamp/omarchy` issue #2745: screen flickering reported with NVIDIA GPU; intermittent, small rectangular flicker; fixed in some cases by `--use-gl=desktop`, `env LIBVA_DRIVER_NAME=iHD`, or disabling GPU acceleration (`--disable-gpu` or `chrome://flags` vulkan disable).
|
|
- GitHub `omarchy-mac` commit `e06fa26`: Apple Silicon (`apple-drm` vs `simpledrm`) boot/display race — fixed by `omarchy-wait-for-display` blocking until `apple-drm` takes over. Not applicable to Intel.
|
|
- Reddit `/r/macmini`: M1 Mac Mini flickering fixed by changing monitor gamma/display profile. Not Intel-specific.
|
|
- Arch forums (`bbs.archlinux.org`): Apple Studio Display (Thunderbolt) flickering — `amdgpu` / `i915` hybrid graphics; `apple-gmux.conf` (`force_igd=y`) resolves.
|
|

Most likely for this case (Intel, continuous, Omarchy installed):

- Hybrid graphics race or external-monitor flicker on Omarchy (Hyprland + external display + `apple-gmux` / i915 / amdgpu interaction)
|
|
- Or browser/compositor-level flicker (Chrome/GPU acceleration on hybrid graphics — common Omarchy issue)
|
|
|
|
Not the `omarchy-wait-for-display` Apple-drm fix (Apple Silicon only).
